![]() What is Hypnosis? Hypnosis is a state of inner absorption, concentration and focused attention. It is like using a magnifying glass to focus the rays of the sun and make them more powerful. Similarly, when our minds are concentrated and focused, we are able to use our minds more powerfully...Recent research supports the view that hypnotic communication and suggestions effectively changes aspects of the person's physiological and neurological function."
(American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, www.asch.net) Holistic Therapy: The term “holistic" dates back to the time of Hippocrates, over 2,500 years ago. Believing it was insufficient to focus on just one aspect of a person, Hippocrates emphasized the importance of establishing equilibrium within individuals, viewing the person as a whole being made up of many parts working in concert with one another. Holistic therapy includes mind, body, and spirit and draws from multiple forms of therapy, such as:
A Holistic Therapist focuses on the person as a whole. If you come to me for anxiety, depression, weight loss, communication issues, pain management, etc., I will focus not only on your psychological situation and needs, but when needed, I will take your social, physical, environmental, and spiritual (transpersonal) situation and needs into account. No one lives in a cocoon. We all have our basic human needs that must be met in order to achieve happiness in our lives, as well as psychological and environmental needs. I take you as a whole person when assessing how to best help you achieve your goals. As a holistic therapist, I use a variety of methods to help a person change their situation, from traditional Talk Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy that engages the Conscious Mind, to alternative methods that engage the Subconscious Mind, such as hypnosis, parts therapy, age regression, Brainspotting, EMDR, past-life regression, rewind, visualization, etc.. As a Certified Hypnotherapist, I have learned the invaluable contribution the Subconscious Mind makes to our feelings, our problems, and our lives and I use that valuable resource in my sessions wherever it is needed. I also consider the community of which you are a part, whether that is work, friends, or family. I follow the philosophy and practice of Positive Psychology and the Strengths Model, as well as Brief Therapy. This means I help you see the positive aspects of your personality and life at a time when you can't find them, I help you do a reality check of who you are by identifying your strengths, abilities, and talents, and my goal is to help you achieve results as quickly as possible. Each situation and person is unique and I have found that different techniques can be applied at different times to enlighten a client's perspective of themselves and uncover some of the beliefs and experiences that may have contributed to the situation, or life pattern, they have found themselves in. My goal is to help you have a clearer understanding of what may have brought you to this experience and, even MORE importantly, how to change and/or manage it in order to achieve the goals you have set for yourself and experience the happiness everyone is meant to live. Many clients have told me, upon completing therapy, that they didn't believe they could ever be happy again. Transpersonal Therapy: Focuses on our connection to the deeper parts of ourselves, as well as our spiritual connection to a Higher Power or the Universe. I only tap into this aspect of a person if they are interested, as not everyone believes in a Spiritual aspect of life, or in a Higher Power. Transpersonal Therapy considers the problems we experience in our lives as signposts guiding us to a more authentic experience of ourselves that can transform our lives not only on the personal level, such as our careers and relationships, but it can also connect us with the deeper parts of ourselves that give us meaning. Ironically, the more we run from experiencing our feelings, the further the divide between our authentic selves and our egoic worldly selves. It's our connection to our deeper selves that will make lasting changes in our experiences and our lives. *House calls are available only after an initial session either in my office or on the phone, and are accepted with discretion. There is an additional $20/session fee for travel time and gas.
